How Do You Learn About All The New Media Technologies?

Thank you so much for being apart of this event here are the points I discussed on the panel:

How Do You Learn About All The New Media Technologies?

As the Technology Therapist® it is my opinion that you don’t need to learn everything, you need to be aware of the new media technologies but implementing and learning it all has to be done with a plan a strategy. Learn what is available but decide what will work for your business and your market.

Tap into the experts. Find experts on the new technologies – read their books, their articles and their blogs. You may even look for a local consultant to speak with regarding what your interested in; blogging, podcasting or social networking.

Once you’ve decided what you want to tackle be sure to make the time to learn. Start with webinars or conference calls many of the experts will advertise them on their web sites. This is a great way to bein because they are shorter and not so overwhelming to begin. Once you are comfortable move on to attending conferences focused on the new technology you’ve chosen to learn.

Find a mentor or partner. If you’re fearful of what you’re getting into find someone else who has done it. Talk it over.
  • What technology choice did they make and why?
  • Did they examine other options?
Make a commitment – everything takes time – don’t expect to jump in and know everything.
  • Be patient with yourself and your team if you have to implement this in a working environment.
  • Planning to learn before you launch.
Understand not only the technology but if there is etiquette involved.
  • Social Networking, Podcasting, Blogging – you are reaching out to a new audience who may have a set of rules you don’t know about. Take the time to find out those unspoken rules.

For every great speaker...

...there's a great audience.

Thank you so very much for the opportunity to speak to such a receptive, interested group of people. I WILL be back as a guest to attend other AWC events.

That picture of us is GREAT! Thanks for sharing it, Howard.

Don't forget you can go to http://www.xynoMedia.com to grab your copy of the Technology Strategy & Planning Workbook so you can start down the road to creating your own technology strategy. And, if you want to really get to the bottom of leveraging technology in your business, then The Technology Diet is for you http://www.TechnologyDiet.com

So, let's get the dialogue pumping! I'm sure everyone had a chance to go home and "digest" last night's great information. But, with "digestion" comes questions so, if you have any questions, please feel free!

Thanks for a great time,

Lena

Pictures from last night's event

I very much enjoyed being part of the panel last night. Though I also posted this in the comments of the previous blog post , I wanted people to be able to find the pictures I have, both of the audience and the panel.
You'll find them on Flickr, which is a Social Media Photo posting and sharing site.
The pictures are here.
You can tag the pictures with descriptive tags so others searching for the people in the photos can find the people. (What are tags?) You can make comments about the pictures under the pictures. And, you can even make notes within the pictures. If you put your mouse on the picture below: http://www.flickr.com/photos/howardgr/298533080/
you'll see a box around my face. Try out the tools for yourself. You can see examples of all of the things I mentioned above - tags, photo notes, and comments- on this photo.

Welcome to the AWC New Media Chat!

As a follow-up to our November 15 New Media program, we're launching this blog to give attendees (and those who couldn't make it) a place to learn, share experiences, and ask questions. And those of you who haven't yet experienced blogging will have a place to contribute and learn!

Still not sure what a blog is? Simply click here!

Enjoy and come back often!
